Experiences create a trusted mindset

April 6, 2023

As we go through life, we accumulate experiences that shape our beliefs, perceptions, and attitudes. These experiences, both positive and negative, have a profound impact on the way we see the world and the people in it. They can either create a mindset of trust or one of skepticism.

Additionally, experiences can shape a person's mindset and create a sense of trust in oneself. This is especially true in fields like the military and endurance sports like Ironman triathlons, where individuals are pushed to their physical and mental limits.

Being in the military can create a trusted mindset because it requires individuals to rely on their training and their fellow soldiers to accomplish their missions. Soldiers undergo rigorous training that instills discipline, resilience, and a strong sense of teamwork. This helps them develop a trusted mindset, where they believe in their abilities and their team's abilities to handle any situation that arises.

Similarly, competing in Ironman triathlons can also create a trusted mindset. These grueling races require participants to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run or walk in my case, a marathon (26.2 miles) all in 17 hours. Enduring such a physical and mental challenge helps participants develop a sense of trust in their own abilities. They learn to push through pain, overcome mental obstacles, and trust their training and preparation.

For example, imagine a person who has completed an Ironman triathlon. They've trained for months, put in countless hours of swimming, biking, and running, and have overcome numerous setbacks along the way. When faced with a difficult situation in their personal or professional life, they can draw on this experience and the trust they've developed in their abilities to overcome the obstacle.

Experiences like these can also create a trusted mindset in teams. In the military or during an Ironman triathlon, individuals are part of a larger team working towards a common goal. By relying on each other and trusting in their team's abilities, they can accomplish things that may seem impossible individually. This mindset can carry over into other aspects of life, whether it be in the workplace or personal relationships.

Experiences create a trusted mindset. The more positive experiences we have with others, the more likely we are to trust them. We must be willing to step out of our comfort zones and interact with people from all walks of life. We must be open-minded and willing to give people the benefit of the doubt. By doing so, we can create a mindset of trust and see the world in a more positive light.
